bank of america credit cards compromised
Fraudulent charge on checking account?

I checked my Bank of America accounts online (checking and savings accounts), and I noticed a suspicious charge to my checking account (debit card). It was a checkcard purchase at the Free Mason Store in Brooklyn, New York on March 14, 2008 for $0.53. Now I am in San Francisco, California, and the charge on my debit card before that one was a purchase I made at Best Buy, 2 hours before the NY charge.

I’ve already called Bank of America, and they said that they were going to cancel my debit card, and then send me a new debit card with a new number. They said that my old card number had been “compromised.”

I’m gonna go to my bank in the morning, but I just wanna know now if there’s anything more serious to this? The charge was only for 53 cents so maybe the thieves were testing to see if my account was active, but should I worry about identity theft? Should I close my accounts? I don’t have any credit cards, I only use debit card and cash. What steps should I take?

Thanks!!!

The bank did all that was necessary by canceling the card. I had a similar experience 2 weeks ago.
