Debit and credit card stolen. Proper steps to take? My first time with this.?

So my wallet was stolen at the gym tonight.Only the debit card was used. These assholes used the my debit card at a chevron and liquor store. I already canceled the cards n filed a police report.Any one have experience with this in the past and have helpful advice or tips to make this process more smooth n painless? Bank of america (debit card) says they will retrieve the security footage of the card user at the time the transaction was made at the location. Is there any success with that? Can I actually go to these stores and get the picture of these guys? Any help will be much appreciated!!

It’s my understanding that your loss exposure with a stolen debit card is substantially greater than with a lost or stolen credit card. I believe that your loss liabiliby with a credit card is limited to $50 if you report the lost card to the issuer promptly. However I recall reading somewhere that you do not have that same protection with a debit card. If I were you I would run to the bank first thing in the morning and transfer all of the money in my checking account into my savings account so that there is no more money in the account for the crooks to withdraw. I would also consult with a bank officer ASAP to determine what your potential liability is with respect to the debit card and what you need to do to protect yourself in this situation.
