18 yr/old Senior in HS trying to get a credit card?
I am trying to apply for a credit card so I can buy a laptop. That is the ONLY thing I plan on purchasing because I don’t want to buy anything else and my parents won’t let me. I only go to school until 11am and work as a nanny/personal assistant and make about $19,000 a year. I’ve tried applying for a student credit card at Bank of America but you have to be in college. Any suggestions?? I’m looking for something with a limit of no more than $1,500 – $2,000
Thank you!
(P.S. I know credit cards are not the best idea ever but I don’t want to pay for the laptop up front I want to put it on a credit card)
I turned 18 in March 2008, I applied for a card from Capital One, just a normal Mastercard, which gave me $300 which increased to $500. I also went to Bank of America’s website and applied for the American Express card they offer, with a $1000 limit. My girlfriend used chase.com and got a card for $1500. Just don’t apply for too many. I’d say those three are your best bet. Definitely Capital One (although low limit).. but you may be able to get two cards and combine them at the register or buy a gift card with one to help with the laptop purchase. Just be careful, and lock that card up once you get your laptop. Trust me, temptation isn’t there now but it will be.

In response to the person below me : yes, possibly, but Best Buy uses HSBC Bank of Nevada, so it’s not in house.. still checks your credit history.
