What’s the salary of a foreigner in an international bank in Vietnam?
i’m looking to graduate from a top American business school soon and want to work for any big bank in HCMC.
i’m born in America but i’m vietnamese. Will I be classified as a foreigner?
And i heard the average graduate salary for vietnamese citizens are around $25 000 USD in a big bank. (they obviously studied overseas)
the question is, will I get the same salary or double to $50 000 USD which is the minimum for banking salaries in America.
i’m not sure if working at a big bank like HSBC in HCMC will offer me $25 000 USD (vietnamese citizens) or $50 000 USD (the Minimum at HSBC worldwide)
any suggestions or tips will greatly help me decide as i’m very stressed out
xoxo!
A lot depends on how you are hired. If you are hired in the US, you should get a US salary and benefits. If you go to VN and TRY to get a job there, it is a “crap shoot” – a local hire is not a good way to go, if it can be avoided.
You are classified according to your passport. This is a bit dated, but a couple of yeras ago, international organizations in VN would pay up to US$100 for Vietnamese consultants. International consultants however are paid according to their “establshed rate”. So, I could offer well qualified Vietnamese up to US$100 per day, but a Vietnamese who happened to have a German passport (and was a German citizen but Viet kieu) was paid over US$300 per day – because of citizenship – not because of competency – although the 300/day was already a rate that he had been paid by other organizations.
