Can i open two bank accounts from both Bank of America and HSBC?

Right now i am a HSBC customer by having a bank account from them, but my credit is bad,i am planing to pay back the money i owe them for my credit card. but now i really do want to open another account but this time from Bank of America. so do you think i should do that or would this be a stupid idea
am i stupid for wanting to have two bank accounts from difference banks. may i have my income is from SSI. so i’m feeling really stupid about this, but at the same time i really want to do this. i like HSBC cause there ok, but i really want account from Bank of America with them being one of the best banks
