can someone help me understand how medicaid can confiscate savings accounts of family members?
my aunt’s husband has had ongoing medical problems but recently his condition declined severely and he’s now in a nursing home, with no expectation of leaving until he dies.
apparently, they recently switched him to medicaid instead of medicare. and then my aunt discovered that her personal savings account, in her name & social security number, had been taken by medicaid.
the nursing home told her to hire a lawyer and she paid him $3,500 to help her protect her remaining assets: 3-bedroom bungalow, older car, etc. she fears she’ll lose her home and have no place to go at age 75!
so should i believe all this, or is she possibly confused?
I believe your aunt paid a lot for the lawyer, and if the person above is correct in his answer, then the lawyer can’t really do much about it.. It is too bad that the assets weren’t changed before the nursing home did that.
I don’t really know much about your question.
